About the Original Artwork
“Peach Blossom Land” (Taoyuan Xianjing Tu) is a blue-and-green landscape by the Ming-dynasty master Qiu Ying. Three scholars in white robes sit beside a stream beneath towering mineral-green peaks, playing the qin and listening among pines, peach trees and drifting clouds, while a waterfall pours through a mountain gorge. The painting evokes Tao Yuanming’s famous fable of the Peach Blossom Spring, a hidden paradise far from the troubles of the world. The original, ink and colour on silk, is in the collection of the Tianjin Museum.
Meaning
A vision of a peaceful, hidden paradise: a wish for harmony, long life and freedom from worldly cares.
