About the Original Artwork
“Walking and Singing” (Tage Tu) by Ma Yuan shows farmers singing and dancing their way home along a path after harvest, beneath steep peaks, willows and bamboo, with a palace half-hidden in the mist. A poem written by an emperor of the Southern Song appears at the top, celebrating a bountiful year. The original, ink and light colour on silk, is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing.
Meaning
A joyful painting of a good harvest and peaceful times.
