About the Original Artwork
“Pine and Cranes for Longevity” (Songhe Yannian Tu) by Tong Kai shows two elegant red-crowned cranes beneath a winding green pine, with auspicious flowers blooming behind them. The artist’s inscription records that it was painted as a birthday gift. The original, ink and colour on silk, is in the collection of the Anhui Museum.
Meaning
“Songhe yannian” – “pine and crane, extended years” – is one of the most popular Chinese blessings for long life; a classic gift for parents and elders.
